Support Engineer Firewall & Netzwerk (m/w/d)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential IT services organization in the Düsseldorf area seeking a Support Engineer specializing in Firewall and Network technologies. This is an excellent opportunity to develop deep expertise in network security rather than remaining a generalist across all IT domains.

In this role, you'll work with diverse client environments, gaining hands-on experience with multiple vendors and network configurations. You'll be part of a specialized support team focused on firewall and network infrastructure, receiving structured mentorship and manufacturer certifications to advance your technical skills.

Responsibilities

• Accept, analyze, and resolve network and firewall incidents and requests via telephone, email, and ticketing systems
• Configure and maintain firewalls including rulesets, NAT configurations, and VPN connections (technologies include Sophos Firewall, Fortinet FortiGate)
• Administer network components such as switches and access points (Ubiquiti UniFi, Fortinet, Sophos platforms)
• Deploy and support site-to-site and client VPN connections
• Troubleshoot network issues involving DNS, DHCP, VLAN, and routing alongside client teams
• Document configurations, changes, and technical solutions comprehensively
• Serve as technical escalation point for the service desk on network and firewall matters
• Collaborate with senior support engineers on complex issues and project work
• Follow defined processes and quality standards in all technical work

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Completed IT apprenticeship (such as Fachinformatiker/in Systemintegration) or comparable practical experience
• Professional experience in IT support, service desk, or system administration
• Fundamental understanding of networking concepts: TCP/IP, VLAN, routing, DNS, DHCP
• Practical experience with firewalls (Sophos Firewall or Fortinet FortiGate preferred) and/or network components (such as Ubiquiti UniFi)
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Windows client operating systems
• Enthusiasm for analyzing technical problems and interest in network and security specialization
• Service-oriented mindset with strong customer focus
• Independent, structured working style
• Excellent German language skills and good English proficiency

Advantageous experience:

• Background in managed service provider (MSP) or system house environments
• Familiarity with Sophos Central, FortiManager/FortiAnalyzer, or UniFi Network Controller
• Manufacturer certifications (Sophos Certified Engineer, Fortinet NSE 4, Cisco CCNA)
• Basic knowledge of Windows Server environments, Active Directory, or Microsoft 365
• Exposure to virtualization technologies (Hyper-V or VMware)
• ITIL knowledge or relevant certifications
• Class B driving license
