Accounting Lead (m/f/d)

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential robotics organization in Munich that's scaling rapidly across Europe and the US. They need an experienced Accounting Lead who can bring precision, compliance, and process excellence to a fast-moving finance operation supporting global growth.

This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll own month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close under HGB while managing reconciliations to IFRS and US-GAAP. You'll lead a small accounting team, work closely with external advisors and auditors, and play a central role in building a scalable, automated accounting infrastructure that supports international operations.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements under HGB and ensure accurate reconciliation to IFRS and US-GAAP for executive leadership and investors
• Lead and mentor the accounting team (currently two internal staff plus an external bookkeeping partner) and serve as the go-to expert for day-to-day accounting questions
• Manage revenue recognition for complex robotics projects with capital equipment characteristics, including proper treatment of advance payments under HGB, IFRS, and US-GAAP
• Plan and oversee physical inventory counts, including valuation of work-in-progress and capitalized internal development, ensuring robust inventory accounting
• Supervise ongoing general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, and cash management—and step in operationally when needed
• Serve as primary contact for tax advisors and external auditors; coordinate and support the annual audit process
• Support an ERP system migration and the transition to fully in-house accounting operations by 2027
• Own intercompany accounting between the German parent and US subsidiary, ensuring consistent reporting across both entities
• Collaborate closely with controlling, HR, supply chain/operations, and executive management

What We're Looking For

• Certified Bilanzbuchhalter (IHK) with several years of hands-on, practical accounting experience—not just coursework
• Strong command of HGB financial statement preparation and solid working knowledge of IFRS and US-GAAP, including the ability to independently prepare reconciliation schedules
• Experience with revenue recognition for project-based or capital equipment businesses, including advance payment treatment under multiple accounting frameworks
• Proven experience conducting physical inventories (both periodic and perpetual) and managing inventory valuation, ideally including work-in-progress
• Operational proficiency in accounts payable and receivable—you can step in and post transactions yourself when the situation requires it
• Fluent in German and English (minimum C1 level) with the ability to explain complex accounting topics clearly in both languages
• Self-directed and comfortable making decisions in an environment where processes are still being defined
• Direct, transparent communication style—you flag issues early, ask questions when needed, and acknowledge knowledge gaps rather than deflect
• Resilient and adaptable in a fast-changing, growth-stage environment
• Experience with common accounting software and ERP systems (e.g., DATEV, Odoo, Moss, Ramp) and openness to supporting a system transition
• Intercompany accounting experience and prior work with US subsidiaries is a strong plus
• Background in manufacturing, technology, or high-growth companies is advantageous
