AI Engineer (m/w/d)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential software consultancy seeking an experienced AI Engineer to design, develop, and deploy production-grade AI systems for enterprise clients. This is a hands-on technical role where you will build intelligent software from concept through stable operation.

Your day-to-day will include:

• Designing and implementing agentic systems with tool calling, multi-step workflows, state management, retry logic, fallbacks, human-in-the-loop patterns, and guardrails
• Building LLM-powered applications including RAG pipelines, structured extraction, evaluation frameworks, and observability tooling
• Integrating foundation models, ML services, and data-driven components into new and existing systems—including APIs, data flows, and supporting infrastructure
• Developing scalable, maintainable applications on cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure, leveraging managed AI services
• Identifying genuine AI use cases in client projects and making honest recommendations about when agentic solutions are appropriate versus deterministic approaches
• Using AI coding tools productively in your own development workflow and sharing best practices with the team
• Advising clients on architecture, technology selection, and build-versus-buy decisions
• Ensuring code quality through clean code principles, testing, peer review, and established best practices
• Contributing actively to the growth of the AI competency practice—setting technical direction, sharing knowledge, and establishing standards

What We're Looking For

Our client requires a senior-level engineer with genuine software development depth and practical AI implementation experience:

• Several years of modern software development experience, ideally with full-stack capabilities—you are and remain a developer at heart
• Hands-on experience with LLMs and generative AI in real projects: prompting, RAG, embeddings, vector databases, function calling, fine-tuning, or agent frameworks
• Experience with or serious interest in agentic engineering—you have taken an agent beyond demo status or are motivated to do so
• Solid understanding of ML fundamentals and data processing—you know what models can and cannot do
• Cloud development experience with AWS and/or Azure, including CI/CD, containers, and infrastructure as code
• Strong grasp of clean code, SOLID principles, and software architecture design
• Independent, responsible working style with strong analytical and conceptual abilities
• Pragmatic problem-solving skills and the ability to think beyond immediate requirements
• High motivation and passion for software engineering in a rapidly evolving technology landscape
• Fluent German (C1 level) and good English proficiency

Beneficial experience includes:

• Frameworks: Angular,.NET, NestJS
• Languages: C#, TypeScript, Python
• Infrastructure as code with Terraform and/or CDK

Pay

Compensation details will be discussed during the screening process and are competitive for senior AI engineering roles in Germany.
