Senior AI Engineer (f/m/d)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential construction technology client in München that is transforming how supply chain documents are processed in their industry. This is a senior-level AI engineering role where you'll build production machine learning systems that handle real-world documents—purchase orders, delivery notes, and invoices—with the reliability and compliance requirements the construction sector demands.

This is a hybrid position requiring presence in München at least two days per week.

Responsibilities

• Lead MLOps processes and maintain infrastructure to ensure AI systems remain reliable, scalable, and secure in production
• Design and implement advanced AI features, collaborating with engineering and product teams to deploy machine learning models and data pipelines
• Build and optimize document extraction systems that work reliably across diverse real-world formats, implementing uncertainty estimation to flag edge cases for human review
• Develop automated reconciliation capabilities across multiple document types within strict legal and compliance frameworks
• Improve accuracy, efficiency, and robustness of existing AI features through rigorous testing against unseen production data
• Contribute to scalability, maintainability, and core functionality of AI solutions while building new capabilities from the ground up
• Align technical work with customer needs and support product and sales discussions
• Help establish engineering standards, tooling, and quality practices across the team
• Mentor and technically guide colleagues as you build toward a future Team Lead role
• Leverage modern AI tools as part of daily workflow

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent practical experience)
• 5+ years of experience in AI engineering, including end-to-end lifecycle management and MLOps
• Hands-on expertise in natural language processing and image processing
• Strong Python skills and experience with Azure; Terraform experience is advantageous
• Passion for generative AI, OCR, and building customer-focused solutions that work reliably in production
• Track record of writing clean, well-tested code with consideration for deployment and maintenance
• Solid understanding of AI agents, tools, and their practical limitations
• Experience mentoring or technically guiding others, with ambition to grow into a Team Lead role
• Fluent English and German (C1 level or above)
• Willingness to work from the München office at least two days per week
