Lead Software Engineer (m/f/d)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential client in the insurance technology sector, and we're seeking a Lead Software Engineer to join their Berlin-based team. In this role, you will:

• Take technical ownership of the configuration and product management platform, setting the technical direction and delivery strategy for the team
• Spend the majority of your time in hands-on technical work: researching solutions, writing technical proposals, building proof-of-concepts with cross-functional teams, and shipping production code
• Partner with product managers and business stakeholders on critical technical and business decisions
• Ensure delivery stays on track through realistic planning, agile practices, and meeting deadlines
• Lead by example: provide feedback, facilitate team meetings, and support colleagues' professional development (this is a smaller component of the role)
• Identify blockers early, resolve them proactively, and maintain transparent communication with stakeholders

What We're Looking For

• Strong hands-on software engineering experience with Node.js and TypeScript
• Initial experience leading or managing people—you don't need extensive management history, but you've led at least once and want to develop further in this direction
• Full-stack understanding across frontend and backend with cloud-agnostic thinking
• Practical experience integrating AI tools into your engineering workflow—working with AI assistants, delegating to agents, orchestrating multi-agent systems, and similar approaches
• Clear communication skills and motivation to grow into building and guiding a team
• Experience in insurance or finance is a plus but not required
