OpenCPI Engineer (FPGA or software)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential technology consultancy seeking an experienced embedded software engineer to take a leading technical role in projects involving the Open Component Portability Interface (OpenCPI) framework. This position focuses on defence sector work, primarily within Cyber Electromagnetic Activities and Electronic Warfare applications.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

• Leading implementation and system architecture design for complex OpenCPI projects
• Managing requirements and maintaining direct client interaction throughout project lifecycles
• Mentoring and guiding junior engineers, including task definition and providing technical oversight
• Collaborating with project managers on scheduling, budgeting, progress tracking, and project planning
• Contributing to technical sales activities through high-level design work and cost estimation to support bid development
• Working across all aspects of OpenCPI development: core framework improvements, OSP development, and component/worker/application development

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• An excellent degree in a technical field (Computer Science, Engineering, Electronics, Physics, Mathematics) or equivalent industrial experience
• Prior industrial experience in at least one of the following areas, with enthusiasm for learning the other:
  • Software implementation in low-level systems languages (C++ strongly preferred)
  • FPGA software development (VHDL and Xilinx toolchain preferred but not required)
• Significant hands-on experience with OpenCPI in at least one of these areas, preferably with exposure to all:
  • Core framework development
  • OSP development
  • Component, worker, and application development
• Demonstrated experience using and debugging complex OpenCPI designs in production environments
• Proven project leadership experience including technical lead responsibilities, system design, and client interaction
• Ability to obtain Security Check level security clearance and work in the UK without restrictions in accordance with UK National Law

Desirable but not required:

• Knowledge of radio system design
• Understanding of analogue, RF, and digital electronics
