About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential financial technology firm in their search for a Linux Engineering Manager to lead a growing team of systems engineers in London.
Our client operates a critical trading platform that requires exceptional technical leadership. This role combines hands-on Linux engineering with people management responsibilities. You'll start as an individual contributor to establish deep technical understanding of the environment, then transition into full management duties while continuing to contribute technically.
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of Linux engineers, administrators, and systems programmers
- Maintain and improve production trading infrastructure and platform stability
- Balance individual technical contributions with leadership and management duties
- Drive project and programme management for large-scale systems initiatives
- Facilitate cross-functional partnerships and coordinate firm-wide technical efforts
- Perform systems engineering work, troubleshooting, and platform optimization
- Support team members' professional development and help teams thrive
- Lead by example through hands-on technical work and problem-solving
- Contribute to short-term and long-term technical planning and service delivery
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent technical experience
- Proven track record in people management and supporting individual growth
- Deep knowledge of Linux operating system fundamentals and modern Linux systems
- Strong fluency with Unix command line and shell scripting
- Practical experience with systems programming concepts
- Programming experience in any language; willingness to learn OCaml
- Basic understanding of network protocols
- Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills across technical, process, and people domains
- Clear, concise communication skills in both one-on-one and group settings
- Experience building firm-wide partnerships and coordinating large-scale initiatives
- Ability to efficiently analyse and deconstruct complex problems
- Fluency in English required
