About This Opportunity

We are representing a fast-growing AI-powered workforce management platform serving frontline organizations across the UK and US. Our client operates a modern payroll bureau that processes payroll for enterprise customers in sectors including hospitality, healthcare, education, and retail.

They are hiring a Senior Payroll Specialist to own end-to-end payroll processing and client relationships for a portfolio of complex accounts. This is a hybrid role based in London (Soho), requiring 2+ days per week in the office.

This is not a conventional bureau environment. You will be joining a startup where processes are actively being built and refined, with AI integrated into payroll operations in ways that set this team apart from traditional bureaus. If you thrive on ownership, process improvement, and building rather than following established playbooks, this represents genuine opportunity as the bureau scales.

Responsibilities

  • Run end-to-end payrolls for a growing portfolio of enterprise customers with complex requirements, including hourly rates, overtime, and weekly, fortnightly, or monthly cycles
  • Own client relationships as the primary point of contact, ensuring confidence and trust in service delivery
  • Identify and implement process improvements, including exploring where AI can genuinely enhance payroll operations
  • Provide payroll expertise to support sales efforts, helping prospective customers understand bureau capabilities
  • Collaborate across implementation, product, customer success, and support teams
  • Develop strong working knowledge of the HR and workforce management platform and its integration with payroll
  • Monitor KPIs, SLAs, and compliance to maintain the highest service standards
  • Stay current on UK payroll legislation, tools, and industry trends

What We're Looking For

  • Hands-on bureau payroll experience processing for multiple clients (not single in-house payroll)
  • Strong working knowledge of UK payroll legislation: PAYE, RTI, pension auto-enrolment, and statutory payments
  • Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent payrolls at volume across different pay cycles
  • Client-facing confidence and expertise, operating as a trusted payroll advisor
  • Genuinely curious and self-sufficient: you research, question inefficiencies, and bring solutions rather than waiting for direction
  • Genuinely motivated by a startup environment where you help build processes, not just follow them
  • Bonus: CIPP qualification (or working towards it), high-volume or multi-sector bureau experience, experience building or improving payroll tools and processes (including with AI), Ireland payroll exposure
