Senior Software Engineer

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential cybersecurity technology company based in Australia. Fresh off a significant Series C funding round, our client is scaling rapidly and reimagining how organizations manage cyber risk through AI-driven precision at global scale.

We're seeking a Senior Software Engineer to own a feature area within one of their Product Engineering squads. You'll lead technical design, shape what gets built alongside product and design partners, and mentor engineers while shipping features that customers depend on daily. This is a fully remote role based anywhere in Australia, with optional offices in Sydney and Hobart.

Responsibilities

• Own a feature area end-to-end, from design conversations with product through to production and ongoing support
• Lead technical design for your area and drive architectural decisions within it
• Collaborate with product and design to shape the roadmap: what's possible, what it costs, and what should come first
• Mentor engineers around you and lift the quality of the squad's code and technical decisions
• Improve the reliability, scalability, and performance of the systems you own
• Develop deep understanding of the cybersecurity domain and bring that knowledge into what you build
• Work with agentic coding tools as part of your daily workflow and contribute ideas on automation opportunities

What We're Looking For

• Typically 5+ years of relevant engineering experience at tech-centric, product-driven companies
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript and React
• Productive experience with a backend language (our client uses Go)
• Solid relational database skills (they use Postgres)
• Comfort using AI coding tools as your default workflow, with the judgment to review and own what they produce
• Ability to make pragmatic trade-offs, weighing technical quality against current business needs
• Low ego, high care: focus on the product and customer, not just the code
• Track record of leading technical design for a feature area and delivering it to production
• Experience mentoring engineers and elevating code quality and decision-making

What will give you an edge:

• Cybersecurity experience
• Experience running services on Kubernetes, ideally on GCP
• Building complex applications from the ground up with cross-functional teams
• Owning a service in production: on-call, observability, and the judgment to prioritize fixes
