Fusion Island Breeding Blanket Lead (f/m/d)

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential fusion energy organization developing next-generation clean power technology. We're seeking a Fusion Island Breeding Blanket Lead to join their advanced engineering team in Darmstadt, Germany.

This is a rare opportunity to lead the design and development of critical breeding blanket systems within a commercial-scale fusion reactor program. You'll own end-to-end technical accountability for cooling concepts, tritium breeding and extraction, and structural integrity—from early concept through licensing and commissioning handover.

Responsibilities

• Lead all aspects of breeding blanket design, including power cycle architecture, configuration parameters, and fundamental safety approach
• Provide technical leadership and resolve complex, cross-cutting engineering challenges across multidisciplinary interfaces
• Author key engineering deliverables: system design descriptions, design basis documents, interface control documents, and safety analysis inputs
• Manage and mentor a multidisciplinary engineering team through design, licensing, and construction phases
• Report design status, risks, and issues to senior leadership with clarity and regularity
• Execute design change control processes to maintain schedule and cost discipline while preserving design integrity

What We're Looking For

Required:

• M.Sc. in nuclear engineering or chemical engineering (Ph.D. preferred)
• Minimum 5 years of experience in thermal-hydraulics, tritium transport, and mechanical design
• At least 2 years leading multidisciplinary technical teams
• Deep knowledge of safety analysis principles and design basis development
• Strong understanding of nuclear reactor physics
• Mastery of CFD or thermomechanical FEA tools
• Experience with tritium fuel cycles and instrumentation & control systems
• Proven ability to manage requirements, RAMI, licensing documentation, and project scheduling

Preferred:

• Advanced fusion reactor knowledge, especially inertial fusion energy (IFE)
• Mastery in thermal hydraulics and tritium transport applied to nuclear or fusion systems
• Experience with advanced nuclear reactor systems
• Programming skills
