General Counsel/ Head of Legal (m/w/d)

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential greentech organization based in Berlin. They are seeking an experienced General Counsel / Head of Legal to establish and lead the entire legal function as the company scales. This is a high-impact role reporting directly to the CEO, working closely with the leadership team on strategic legal and business matters.

You will be responsible for building legal infrastructure from the ground up—creating scalable processes, managing external counsel efficiently, and establishing the foundation for a best-in-class legal department in a fast-growing climate technology business.

Responsibilities

• Own the entire legal function and drive its strategic development across the organization
• Serve as trusted legal advisor and sparring partner to the CEO, C-level executives, and leadership team on legal and business matters
• Build, develop, and scale legal structures, processes, and systems to support company growth
• Manage external law firms efficiently and establish scalable legal operations including modern tools and AI solutions
• Build and eventually lead a legal team as the organization expands
• Manage legal budgets, priorities, and stakeholder relationships across the business
• Provide counsel on commercial, regulatory, and operational matters in a fast-paced growth environment
• Shape critical initiatives including expansion, compliance, and risk management

What We're Looking For

• Volljurist (German state exam qualification) or equivalent legal background
• Several years of experience as in-house counsel, ideally in a dynamic, high-growth startup environment
• Proven track record independently managing complex legal matters or projects
• Experience building structures, processes, or teams from the ground up
• Strong business acumen with a pragmatic, solution-oriented advisory approach
• Genuine interest and motivation to build and develop an entire function
• Trusted legal partner who advises at eye level, makes clear decisions, and challenges the status quo
• Impactful leader who can build strong teams, set clear expectations, and drive results
• Hands-on problem solver with ownership mentality who goes deep into details
• Process and automation mindset—able to think in scalable systems without compromising quality or control
• Fluency in German and English required
