Senior SRE – Networks

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential edge computing organization in the UK. They operate one of the world's largest content delivery networks, spanning multiple continents with extensive points of presence globally. This infrastructure serves a significant portion of internet traffic, supporting customers from media streaming to e-commerce and open source projects.

We're seeking a Senior SRE with deep expertise in networks and internet protocols to join their Technical Operations team. This role offers the chance to work at true internet scale, managing infrastructure that impacts millions of end users daily.

Responsibilities

• Build, operate, and maintain the continually growing global network footprint of a massive edge cloud platform
• Respond to significant traffic incidents and lead network incident resolution, handling edge cases and failure scenarios with expertise in IP routing and BGP
• Write performant, maintainable code and contribute to code reviews and team process improvements
• Partner in developing tools and automation systems that improve network operations and deployment
• Innovate monitoring methods focused on network performance and end-user experience, proactively addressing potential issues
• Perform deep-dive performance analytics and collaborate with partner teams to maintain a high-performing global network
• Advocate for operational stability by identifying opportunities and partnering with engineering teams to shape roadmaps
• Mentor team members on global routing complexities, particularly in anycast-heavy environments

What We're Looking For

• Strong experience with internet protocols and practices including TCP/IP, BGP, Anycast, and DNS
• Proven automation and coding skills using Python or similar languages
• Proficiency working with Tier 1 Internet service providers, Internet exchanges, and cloud providers
• Ability to analyze internet traffic patterns using flow-based tools
• Experience with alerting, monitoring, and visibility tools such as Graphite/Grafana, Prometheus, or Splunk
• Knowledge of cloud hosting solutions including GCP, AWS, and Azure
• Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines (Git, Jenkins, Ansible)
• Strong Linux/Unix systems administration and network stack optimization skills
• Excellence in knowledge sharing and creating comprehensive documentation
• Ability to collaborate cross-functionally to shape technical roadmaps and prioritize automation initiatives

Bonus qualifications:

• Production-level code experience with VCL or Go
• Network telemetry experience including infrastructure instrumentation and data analysis
• Experience working with geographically dispersed or remote teams

Work arrangements: This position requires scheduled hours from 08:00-17:00 and availability during core business hours. Occasional nights and weekends may be necessary for on-call coverage. The role can be filled in London (hybrid) or UK remote.
