Senior Software Engineer – Java (f/m/d)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential identity verification company seeking a Senior Software Engineer – Java to join their team in Berlin or München. In this role, you will design, develop, and maintain robust Java applications and microservices that power critical backend systems serving millions of users globally.

Your day-to-day work will include:

• Building and maintaining scalable microservices and Java applications for high-volume identity verification systems
• Contributing to architectural decisions and system design for secure, maintainable solutions
• Writing clean, efficient, well-documented code following engineering best practices
• Collaborating with product managers, UX designers, DevOps, and QA engineers in cross-functional teams
• Identifying performance bottlenecks, debugging complex issues, and optimizing applications for high-volume transactions
• Mentoring junior developers, conducting code reviews, and sharing knowledge across the team
• Staying current with emerging technologies and driving technical innovation

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• 5+ years of professional software development experience with strong focus on Java
• Expertise in Java EE and Spring / Spring Boot (or Play Framework)
• Solid understanding of JVM performance tuning and optimization
• Proficiency with relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL)
• Strong experience in RESTful API design and development
• Experience with unit testing frameworks (JUnit, Mockito) and test-driven development (TDD)
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Git, Maven, and Docker
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a collaborative, proactive mindset

Bonus skills:

• Familiarity with Kubernetes, AWS, or microservices architectures
• Experience in security-conscious or compliance-heavy environments (e.g., FinTech, KYC)
• Knowledge of message brokers (Kafka, RabbitMQ) or event-driven systems

This is a hybrid position based in Berlin or München, Germany.
