Senior Software Engineer, Android SDUI

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential marketplace technology company in their search for a Senior Android Engineer to join their server-driven UI platform team in London. This is a hybrid role, typically three days per week in the office.

In this position, you will be responsible for building and scaling a server-driven UI (SDUI) rendering platform that enables teams to build UI once and deploy seamlessly across iOS, Android, and Web without app redeployment. Your day-to-day work will include:

• Designing, building, and evolving the Android SDUI renderer alongside backend services (Kotlin, Golang, Protobuf) to handle complex, real-time UI updates at scale
• Leading architectural improvements and code reviews to ensure maintainability, visibility, and operational health of the rendering platform
• Partnering with cross-functional teams including iOS and Web engineers, product managers, and designers to plan rollouts and influence the platform roadmap
• Owning large-scale initiatives from design to delivery, including initiatives to bring SDUI motion and interaction quality to native-equivalent standards
• Mentoring colleagues and participating actively in the engineering hiring process

What We're Looking For

Our client seeks a candidate with strong expertise in mobile platform engineering and the curiosity to grow across the stack:

• 5+ years of experience building Android applications at scale, with deep understanding of Kotlin and Jetpack Compose
• Backend development experience with Golang, Kotlin, and Protobuf, with comfort moving between client and server code as needed
• Experience building or maintaining server-driven or declarative UI systems, with keen interest in pushing the boundaries of declarative rendering (bonus points for Litho or other DSL-based renderers)
• Product mindset applied to designing platform services for teams building on top of your work
• Demonstrated ownership of technical delivery within cross-functional teams, guiding implementation choices and technical design for platform services
• Strong communication skills for collaborating across time zones with iOS, Web, and Backend counterparts, plus product managers and multiple product teams
• Commitment to software craft, writing readable, well-designed, and thoroughly tested mobile code

Bonus qualifications include exposure to Figma-to-code tooling, design-token or theming systems, or accessibility work in mobile rendering.
