Tech Lead Grower Experience (m/w/d)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential SaaS organization that is building digital infrastructure for the European horticulture sector. Our client has developed a platform that enables producers, B2B buyers, and distributors to collaborate efficiently, replacing fragmented processes with modern software solutions.

We're seeking a Tech Lead to take ownership of browser application development and backend services. This is a ground-floor opportunity to build and lead a new engineering squad while working directly with the CTO. You'll be responsible for one of the most commercially important areas of the platform, setting technical direction, making key architectural decisions, and shaping team culture.

Responsibilities

• Own the architecture, technical quality, and evolution of the grower-facing browser application and its backend services
• Build and develop your engineering squad from the ground up, fostering a culture of ownership, pragmatism, and continuous learning
• Collaborate closely with the product team to translate customer needs into sustainable technical solutions
• Ensure your team delivers software continuously, securely, and reliably—from technical specification and API design through to operations, incident management, and continuous improvement
• Take responsibility for performance, stability, security, and compliance; identify and address technical risks early
• Lead by technical depth and clarity while remaining hands-on in code without becoming a bottleneck
• Make architectural decisions within the Spryker Commerce OS framework, knowing when to extend and when custom solutions are appropriate
• Guide your team in using AI effectively and responsibly for development, testing, documentation, and code reviews
• Work with commercial KPIs and visit customers on-site to test solutions in real operating environments

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Several years of experience as a Tech Lead or Senior Engineer in web, ERP, warehouse, or e-commerce systems
• Strong practical experience with TypeScript in microservice architectures and React/Vite on the frontend
• Experience with API-first/spec-first development
• Hands-on experience with AWS cloud infrastructure (AWS Lambda), modern deployment processes (AWS CDK), and monitoring
• Previous experience building teams and understanding what it takes to develop both software and people
• Self-directed work style with clear communication, high quality standards, and commercial product mindset
• Fluent German and very good English

Preferred:

• Experience with PostgreSQL or DocumentDB
• Experience with PHP or Spryker
• Experience with complex order, pricing, or inventory/catalogue processes
• Startup or fast-growing technology company background

This is a hybrid position based in Cologne. You'll work from the office and make regular visits to customers and partners on-site.
