We are representing a confidential fintech organization seeking a Risk & Control Manager to join their Second Line of Defence team in London. Our client is a scaling payments platform serving thousands of business customers across multiple markets. This role offers the chance to strengthen risk frameworks and drive control maturity in a fast-paced regulatory environment.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Second Line risk management framework, ensuring alignment with regulatory expectations and business strategy
• Execute effective oversight activities of First Line teams, assessing risk identification quality, control design, and ongoing management across the business
• Act as a trusted advisor to business teams and First Line stakeholders on risk topics, regulatory change, and the broader control environment
• Support development and preparation of clear, data-informed risk reports for senior management and governance committees, surfacing key exposures and control gaps
• Contribute to regulatory interactions on risk and control matters, providing subject matter expertise to support credible responses
• Take ownership of key Second Line review and challenge activities across priority business areas
• Play an active role in evolving risk frameworks as the organization continues to scale

What We're Looking For

• Approximately 5–7 years of experience in a regulated financial services environment (fintech, banking, payments, or similar)
• At least 3 years focused specifically on risk or control management functions
• Solid understanding of credit risk assessment and management
• Professional background rooted in risk management and control functions, with hands-on experience in execution and assurance activities
• Experience spanning both First Line and Second Line of Defence is highly valued
• Proven track record of engaging and influencing stakeholders on complex or sensitive risk topics
• Ability to translate risk concepts into practical, accessible language for diverse audiences—from technical teams to senior leadership
• Pragmatic, solutions-oriented mindset with passion for finding workable answers to real risk challenges
• Clear, collaborative communication skills with confidence to challenge constructively

Highly desirable: Experience at both a fintech and a traditional banking or payments institution. Exceptional candidates with around 4 years of deeply relevant experience are encouraged to apply.

Note: This role is not suited to candidates whose background is primarily in professional services/consultancy, internal audit, or compliance without substantial hands-on risk and control experience.
