AI Strategy & Automation Lead (m/w/d)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential e-commerce organization in the home goods sector that is expanding its AI and automation capabilities across the enterprise. This is a unique, high-impact role where you will serve as the sole strategic lead for generative AI adoption and intelligent automation. You will work directly with C-level executives to identify, prioritize, and implement AI-driven solutions that eliminate manual work, improve quality, and unlock measurable business value across product development, customer service, purchasing, logistics, and internal operations.

This is a hands-on, builder role with full ownership—no bureaucratic layers, just direct collaboration with department heads and leadership to transform how the business operates.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain a portfolio of AI and automation use cases, prioritizing by business impact and feasibility in close alignment with COO and CEO
• Collaborate with teams across product development, design, category management, purchasing, sales, customer service, and logistics to understand workflows and identify where AI can save time, improve quality, or create new opportunities
• Set strategic KPI targets with C-level leadership and track progress through quarterly goals
• Design and implement solutions using leading AI platforms (Anthropic Claude, OpenAI, Google Gemini) and workflow automation tools (n8n, Make, Zapier, or similar)
• Define technical requirements for platform integrations and work closely with engineering leadership on implementation
• Train employees on safe and productive use of AI tools, build an internal AI champion network, and enable departments to work independently with AI solutions
• Establish governance frameworks for AI use, including data classification, GDPR compliance, and IP protection, in coordination with IT and executive leadership
• Drive practical AI applications such as: AI-generated product design variations, customer service ticket classification and pre-drafting, competitive analysis and contract review, internal knowledge agents based on company documents, and cross-departmental workflow automation

What We're Looking For

• 5–8 years of relevant professional experience, with at least 2–3 years in hands-on, demonstrably productive implementation of generative AI and LLM-based solutions in a business context
• Direct e-commerce experience (D2C or mid-market) is mandatory—you must understand the core processes, levers, and dynamics of modern online retail and where AI delivers the highest ROI
• Senior-level technical skills: expert in prompt engineering, agentic workflows, and RAG patterns; highly proficient with n8n, Make, or Zapier; comfortable with basic API logic
• Strong process thinking with a sharp ROI focus—you implement only projects that deliver clear, measurable business value
• Builder mentality with exceptional initiative and ownership—you drive projects forward independently without needing rigid structures or constant direction
• Excellent communication skills: able to explain complex AI topics clearly to both C-level executives and operational staff (logistics, accounting, etc.)
• Fluent German and English required

Location & Work Arrangement

This role is based in Bonn, Germany, with a strong focus on on-site collaboration. A flexible allowance of 26 home-office days per year is provided for personal appointments or focused work.
