Praktikum / Werkstudent Founder’s Associate FP&A (m/w/d) – Berlin – Deutsch C2 erforderlich

Responsibilities

We are representing a fast-growing construction services client in Berlin that needs a finance-focused intern or working student to build their entire FP&A function from the ground up. You will own the complete financial reporting for a business handling projects worth €35,000–40,000 each, processing approximately 24 installations monthly.

Your core responsibilities:

• Define and implement rules for project-level cost allocation versus overhead—these standards do not currently exist
• Weekly: extract and categorize transactions from accounting systems, assigning costs to individual projects
• Investigate anomalies by reaching out to project managers and leadership when line items don't align with expectations
• Monthly: calculate contribution margin per project and separate non-project costs including rework, service calls, and office expenses
• Challenge every line item with four questions: Why does this cost exist? Why can't we eliminate it? What alternatives exist? What do you recommend?
• Present findings directly to the three founders in monthly reviews—expect rigorous questioning
• Prepare high-level metrics for company-wide meetings once or twice monthly
• Success metric: after one year, every project has clear profitability data, reporting runs on a fixed cadence, and at least one margin improvement lever has been identified and implemented

What We're Looking For

Critical requirements:

• German language proficiency at C2 level or native speaker—this is non-negotiable as all invoices, bookings, and conversations are in German
• Available for internship or working student position on-site in Berlin
• Approximately one year of finance experience (internships or working student roles count) in controlling, FP&A, accounting, transaction services, or billing
• Currently enrolled at a reputable university studying business or related field

Technical skills:

• Solid command of contribution margin analysis, P&L structure, and cost types—we will not teach fundamentals
• Understanding of booking transactions and ability to navigate German accounting software (sevDesk, Lexware) without explanation of chart of accounts concepts
• Proficient in Google Sheets: formulas, data connections, pivot tables (Excel is not used)
• Ability to build financial models that others can understand—assumptions documented separately, no hardcoded formulas
• Can read and interpret accounting data (you won't do bookkeeping yourself)

Pay

This is an internship or working student position based in Berlin. The client offers hourly compensation; specific rates will be discussed during the screening process.
