About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential fintech organization that is transforming how small business owners navigate mergers and acquisitions in an underserved market segment. Our client operates an innovative platform that connects buyers with sellers and provides acquisition financing, making business succession accessible where traditional M&A firms have overlooked the opportunity.
As their first Marketing Manager, you will build the entire growth function from the ground up. This is a rare opportunity to own customer acquisition strategy for a two-sided marketplace during its critical launch phase, backed by the resources and data infrastructure of an established lending platform.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Design and execute rapid testing across paid search, paid social, organic channels, and direct response to identify scalable acquisition channels for business owners considering exit
- Own the marketing budget and allocation decisions, starting lean to validate channel effectiveness before scaling investment
- Write and iterate on ad copy, landing pages, and conversion assets based on what resonates with owner-managers approaching retirement or succession
- Test offline direct marketing including mail and email to reach business owners who aren't actively searching for exit solutions
- Establish unit economics for seller mandate acquisition across channels, replacing financial model assumptions with real performance data
- Build attribution and measurement infrastructure with technical support to trace customers back to originating channels
- Redesign website conversion journeys to clearly articulate the M&A process, timeline expectations, and competitive differentiation
- Create reporting dashboards that enable the team to make evidence-based channel optimization decisions
- Collaborate with communications teams to generate trade press coverage from completed transactions
- Support buyer acquisition initiatives as the marketplace scales beyond initial seller supply constraints
What We're Looking For
Essential qualifications:
- 4+ years in acquisition, growth, or generalist marketing within startups, scale-ups, or new ventures where you defined strategy rather than executing established playbooks
- Experience with marketplace, two-sided platforms, or supply-constrained environments
- Comfort with long sales cycles, low transaction frequency, and high-value conversions typical of complex financial decisions
- Strong numerical and data literacy—you build measurement before campaigns, understand funnel analytics, and own reported metrics
- Genuinely hands-on approach: you will personally write copy, set up tracking, brief creative, and pull reports without agency or team support
- Track record driving applications or sign-ups into live product journeys, with ability to collaborate with product and engineering on conversion optimization
- Commercial mindset with bias for action and comfort navigating ambiguity in early-stage ventures
Bonus qualifications:
- Experience marketing to SME owner-managers, particularly around retirement, succession, or business exit themes
- Personal experience managing paid channels with real budgets, including the discipline to shut down underperforming channels
- Regulated or financial services marketing background
- Offline direct response experience, especially direct mail campaigns
- Technical proficiency with HubSpot, GA4, SQL, or BI tools like Looker
