We are representing a confidential insurtech organization that is revolutionizing their industry through data-driven innovation. Our talent team is searching for a Data Engineer to join their London-based engineering function and play a critical role in their pricing and underwriting domain.
This position sits at the intersection of machine learning, data science, and engineering. You'll architect and maintain complex data products and pipelines that directly impact business growth and customer outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Shape the architecture of data products for analytics and data science, focusing on forecasting, feature engineering, customer behavior analysis, and new data source integration
- Lead data transformation initiatives by establishing best practices in data modeling, performance optimization, and data governance to ensure consistency, availability, and reliability
- Build reusable technology platforms that enable teams to independently ingest, store, transform, and serve their own data products
- Collaborate with data scientists and machine learning engineers to explore product requirements and refine data infrastructure needs
- Drive continuous learning and experimentation, staying current with emerging technologies through testing open source tools and community engagement
What We're Looking For
Required Skills and Experience:
- Expert-level experience with batch and distributed data processing, plus near real-time streaming pipelines using technologies like Kafka, Flink, and Spark
- Proven track record implementing Data Lake/Big Data Analytics platforms with cloud-based solutions (AWS preferred)
- Strong Python programming skills and adherence to software engineering best practices
- Deep expertise with RDBMS, Data Warehousing, and Data Modeling using relational SQL (Redshift, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases
- Proficiency in DevOps, CI/CD pipeline management, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) deployment best practices
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Databricks
- Hands-on experience in Data Quality and Data Governance techniques
- Knowledge of MLOps and feature engineering
- Familiarity with data analysis and ML technologies such as scikit-learn, pandas, NumPy, XGBoost, LightGBM
- Exposure to workflow orchestration tools like Apache Airflow or Apache Oozie
