Data Software Engineer

About This Opportunity

We are representing a fast-growing online insurance provider seeking a Data Software Engineer to join their Claims team in London. Our client has built a data-driven approach to motor insurance and is expanding rapidly across multiple European markets. This is a chance to work on scalable data infrastructure that directly impacts millions of customers.

You'll join a collaborative engineering organization of over 200 professionals working across software development, infrastructure, and data teams. This role sits at the intersection of data engineering and software development, building the foundational systems that power analytics, forecasting, and machine learning capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Design and architect data products for analytics and data science use cases, including forecasting, feature engineering, and integration of new data sources
• Establish best practices for data transformation, including data modeling, performance optimization, and data governance to ensure consistency and reliability
• Build reusable technology platforms that enable teams to ingest, store, transform, and serve their own data products
• Collaborate with data scientists and machine learning engineers to refine data requirements and enhance infrastructure capabilities
• Drive continuous improvement in data quality standards through ongoing assessment and stakeholder engagement
• Stay current with emerging technologies through experimentation, testing open-source tools, and community engagement

What We're Looking For

Required Skills and Experience:

• Expert-level experience with batch and distributed data processing, plus near real-time streaming pipelines using technologies like Kafka and Spark
• Hands-on experience implementing Big Data Analytics platforms with cloud-based solutions; AWS strongly preferred
• Strong Python programming skills and adherence to software engineering best practices
• Expertise with RDBMS, data warehousing, and data modeling using relational SQL databases (Redshift, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases
• Proficiency in DevOps, CI/CD pipeline management, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) deployment practices

Nice to Have:

• Experience with Databricks
• Hands-on experience with data quality and data governance techniques
