Head of Exchange Infrastructure

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential cryptocurrency trading platform seeking a Head of Exchange Infrastructure based in the United Kingdom. This is a senior leadership role responsible for consolidating and owning the foundational technology layer that powers all trading products: matching engines, core infrastructure, third-party custody systems, algorithmic trading engines, and API platforms.

You will lead a team of four to five product managers and partner closely with engineering leadership to migrate multiple legacy engines into a unified exchange stack. This is a player-coach role requiring hands-on product craft alongside strategic vision-setting.

Responsibilities

• Own the product vision and multi-year roadmap for the exchange infrastructure layer, including matching engine, custody integrations, algo engine, and API architecture
• Lead and develop a team of senior product managers, setting standards for execution and product quality across the infrastructure domain
• Drive the consolidation of multiple matching engines into a single platform, beginning with derivatives and expanding to spot markets
• Build interface-agnostic infrastructure that enables all product teams to build on a unified platform rather than maintaining separate engines
• Define and enforce success metrics including p99 latency, throughput, uptime, and system resiliency
• Partner with engineering leaders to sequence platform migrations without disrupting live trading operations
• Collaborate with Risk and Credit Infrastructure teams to enable unified client accounts across all trading products
• Monitor industry trends and position the platform to stay competitive in a rapidly evolving market
• Align cross-functional stakeholders including product, engineering, risk, and compliance around the infrastructure strategy

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Senior product leadership experience in exchange platforms, trading systems, or high-performance financial infrastructure
• Track record managing and developing product managers in senior, autonomous team environments
• Comfort operating as a player-coach—writing specifications and owning roadmaps directly, not only delegating
• Demonstrated ability to set long-term product vision and translate it into executable roadmaps
• Deep understanding of matching engine architecture, market data systems, and the design tradeoffs required for low-latency performance
• Experience building platforms for internal product teams, with strong judgment around platform versus bespoke development decisions
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Genuine interest in cryptocurrency markets, market structure, and modern financial infrastructure

Preferred:

• Engineering background with hands-on experience building or operating high-performance trading systems
• Experience across both spot and derivatives trading venues, understanding the structural differences between them
• Previous work at a cryptocurrency exchange operating at institutional scale and uptime requirements
• History building platform roadmaps that integrate cleanly with adjacent product organizations rather than operating in silos
