About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential veterinary organization seeking an experienced equine veterinary surgeon to lead their dedicated equine practice in Inverness, Scotland. This is a rare opportunity to step into a Clinical Director role within the only equine-exclusive practice serving the Scottish Highlands region.
Our client delivers a highly respected 24/7 ambulatory and emergency service to a loyal and diverse client base. With strong foundations and an excellent reputation, the practice is positioned for strategic growth under new leadership. You'll have genuine autonomy to shape clinical standards, team development, and the future direction of the practice.
This role combines senior clinical leadership with an active caseload, offering both professional impact and an exceptional quality of life in one of the UK's most spectacular regions.
Responsibilities
- Lead clinical governance, standards and decision-making across the practice
- Develop clinical protocols, patient pathways and quality improvement initiatives
- Mentor and support the veterinary team through ongoing development
- Collaborate on operational performance, workforce planning and long-term sustainability
- Drive service development, investment priorities and strategic growth
- Act as a senior clinical ambassador for clients and referring practices
- Maintain an active clinical caseload aligned with your interests and expertise
- Participate in the shared out-of-hours rota (1 in 4.5 weekends)
Working Pattern: Up to 40 hours per week with 1 in 4.5 out-of-hours weekends
What We're Looking For
- Significant experience as an Equine Veterinary Surgeon with advanced qualifications such as CertAVP or equivalent
- Proven leadership experience with responsibility for supporting and developing veterinary teams
- Strong commercial and financial awareness with understanding of practice performance and sustainability
- Ability to engage, motivate and develop high-performing teams
- Experience contributing to clinical governance, audit and continuous improvement initiatives
- Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills
- Collaborative, values-led leadership style with commitment to exceptional patient and client care
