SCADA Engineering Manager (m/f/d) – Utility Scale PV & BESS

Our talent team is representing a confidential renewable energy organization in their search for a SCADA Engineering Manager. In this role, you will take technical ownership of SCADA, monitoring, plant control, and communication systems for utility-scale solar and battery storage projects. You will serve as the central technical interface between engineering teams, project stakeholders, customers, grid operators, and external suppliers—ensuring these critical systems are correctly specified, integrated, tested, and commissioned.

This position combines deep technical expertise with coordination and stakeholder management. You will translate grid operator requirements, customer expectations, supplier solutions, and project realities into functioning systems. Your primary responsibility is ensuring that SCADA, plant protection control, and communication systems work reliably at commissioning, rather than becoming unresolved project bottlenecks.

Responsibilities

• Maintain technical ownership of SCADA, monitoring, plant control, and communication systems across the project lifecycle
• Manage suppliers and coordinate SCADA and plant protection control providers, holding them accountable for correct specification, integration, and delivery
• Act as the central technical interface among engineering, project teams, customers, grid operators, and external suppliers
• Oversee testing and commissioning activities for SCADA, plant protection control, and communication systems
• Coordinate engineering and project activities from design through to plant operation
• Ensure system reliability and resolve technical issues before and during commissioning

What We're Looking For

• Degree in electrical engineering, automation engineering, control engineering, mechatronics, computer engineering, or comparable technical discipline
• Several years of professional experience in SCADA, industrial automation, power plant control, renewable energy, or grid integration
• Experience with utility-scale solar, battery storage, substations, or other power generation assets highly desirable
• Strong understanding of SCADA architectures, industrial communication networks, and plant control systems
• Familiarity with communication protocols such as Modbus TCP/RTU, IEC 60870-5-104, IEC 61850, OPC UA, or comparable standards
• Understanding of active power, reactive power, voltage, and grid control concepts is an advantage
• Experience working with grid operators, utilities, or grid compliance requirements highly desirable
• Proven track record coordinating external technical suppliers and managing complex system interfaces
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills across hardware, software, and communication systems
• Confident communicator with engineers, customers, suppliers, and grid operators
• Structured working style and strong ownership mentality—you drive technical topics until resolved
• Willingness to travel occasionally to project sites, suppliers, or customers
• Valid driving licence (category B)
• Fluent English; German language skills strongly preferred
• Responsible, proactive, and solution-oriented approach with ability to apply professional expertise effectively
