Engineering Manager

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential fintech client in their search for an Engineering Manager to lead a cross-functional team building consumer-facing banking products in London. This is a high-impact role where you'll manage backend, iOS, and Android engineers while staying close to the technology and driving the delivery of features that users interact with daily.

You'll partner with Product and Design to transform ambitious concepts into production-grade systems, balancing speed with quality while fostering a culture of ownership and continuous improvement. This position requires someone who can make sound technical decisions and genuinely invests in developing their team.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and mentor a high-performing engineering team across backend and mobile disciplines, supporting their professional growth and development
• Stay hands-on with technology by contributing to system design, reviewing code, and guiding architectural decisions for scalable solutions
• Partner closely with Product and Design stakeholders to define goals, translate user needs into technical requirements, and deliver impactful features
• Drive execution and delivery while balancing speed and quality, ensuring reliable and scalable backend systems
• Collaborate cross-functionally across engineering, product, and business teams to align priorities and navigate thoughtful trade-offs
• Shape engineering culture by promoting best practices, ownership, and continuous improvement
• Advocate for end users to ensure products genuinely improve their experience

What We're Looking For

• Strong backend or mobile engineering background with hands-on experience building distributed systems, APIs, and scalable services
• 2+ years proven experience as an Engineering Manager with a track record of leading, mentoring, and growing high-performing teams
• Hands-on mindset—you stay close to the code, contribute to technical decisions, and tackle complex challenges rather than managing from a distance
• Experience with modern technologies such as Go, Kotlin, Python, or similar languages, along with cloud-native environments (AWS, Docker, Kubernetes) or mobile engineering tools
• Product-oriented approach with the ability to make pragmatic decisions and thoughtful trade-offs in fast-paced environments
• Strong communication skills to bring clarity, alignment, and influence across technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Empathetic leadership style focused on team well-being, continuous feedback, and professional growth
• Adaptable and action-oriented, comfortable navigating ambiguity and shifting priorities with confidence
