About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential aerospace technology organization in their search for a Principal RF Engineer I. Our client develops advanced communication systems for satellites and airborne platforms. This is a hands-on role for an experienced RF professional who thrives in dynamic, cross-functional environments and is passionate about cutting-edge phased array development.

Based in Cambridge, United Kingdom, you will take ownership of RF circuits, modules, and systems through all phases of development—from initial concept through manufacturing, testing, qualification, and in-orbit support. This role offers the opportunity to mentor team members and potentially lead significant technical programs.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop board-level and system-level RF electronics for phased array communication systems
  • Create block diagrams, detailed schematics, PCB layouts, and routing for RF circuits
  • Perform RF system architecture definition, requirements analysis, and part selection
  • Work across all aspects of phased arrays including RF front ends, frequency converters, synthesizers, filters, beamformers, power dividers, and antennas
  • Execute link budget analysis and evaluate modulation schemes
  • Conduct simulations, testing, and qualification activities
  • Present engineering design reviews to customers and executive leadership
  • Participate in proposal development and technical writing
  • Serve as a technical and professional mentor within the RF engineering team

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution (Master's preferred)
  • Minimum 9 years of industry experience in RF electronics and systems design and analysis
  • Expert-level proficiency with professional simulation tools such as CST and ADS
  • Expert-level proficiency with EDA tools such as Altium
  • Extensive hands-on experience with vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and oscilloscopes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Experience:

  • Programming skills in Python or similar languages
  • Aerospace electronics design, development, and qualification background
  • Worst-case circuit analysis, failure mode and criticality analyses, and reliability analysis
  • Antenna design experience
  • EMI/EMC design and mitigation techniques
