Senior Software Engineer, Add-Ons

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential open-source technology organization seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join their add-ons ecosystem team. In this role, you will build resilient systems that power review and moderation workflows for a browser extension platform serving millions of developers and users worldwide.

Your work will span:

• Delivering major features and architectural improvements across automated moderation pipelines, reviewer tools, and developer portals
• Establishing and maintaining engineering standards including code review practices, production readiness criteria, runbooks, incident response protocols, and infrastructure-as-code implementations
• Creating robust observability systems and data-driven insights to monitor platform health
• Building and improving systems that enable safe development, deployment, and operation of production services
• Enhancing CI/CD pipelines using declarative, pipeline-as-code approaches for reproducible and testable changes
• Working within Python/Django, MySQL, React/TypeScript, and asynchronous processing systems
• Developing internal developer platforms and paved paths that help teams ship software safely and consistently
• Writing clear technical documentation including design notes, Architecture Decision Records, runbooks, and incident write-ups
• Tracing requests and asynchronous jobs end-to-end across unfamiliar codebases to diagnose issues and identify improvements
• Collaborating with designers, product managers, QA, and community contributors on end-to-end feature delivery
• Contributing through pull requests, code reviews, and open discussions in a distributed team environment

What We're Looking For

Our ideal candidate brings:

• Strong hands-on experience building and maintaining production applications with Python/Django
• Proven track record operating and improving production software systems where reliability and safe delivery are critical
• Strong experience with CI/CD systems and declarative infrastructure-as-code practices
• Experience designing automated testing and deployment workflows, including integration testing and progressive delivery
• Deep understanding of observability as an engineering discipline: metrics, logging, tracing, service-level objectives, and actionable alerting
• Experience building or maintaining internal tools or platforms used by other engineering teams, with understanding of internal systems as products
• Experience defining or improving engineering practices such as code review standards, operational readiness, runbooks, incident response, and on-call expectations
• Ability to read unfamiliar codebases and trace application behavior across frontend, backend, asynchronous jobs, data stores, and infrastructure
• Experience debugging complex production issues and implementing lasting improvements
• Strong technical writing skills for design documents, ADRs, runbooks, and incident reports
• Experience working iteratively with visible backlogs, regular stakeholder feedback, and actionable retrospectives
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills in distributed team environments
• Willingness to share knowledge and mentor peers in operational and reliability practices

Bonus qualifications:

• Experience with Google Cloud and operating Kubernetes
• Infrastructure-as-code tooling and policy-as-code experience
• Experience establishing SLOs and error-budget-based reliability practices
• Chaos engineering, disaster recovery testing, or production readiness review experience
• Experience with trust and safety, automated moderation, abuse prevention, or adversarial systems
• Open source project contributions
