Engineering Manager – Java

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential SaaS organization seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a distributed technical team in Paris. In this role, you will balance hands-on technical contributions with people leadership to deliver innovative solutions at scale.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Taking ownership of user stories, conducting code reviews, and actively contributing to design, development, testing, and production deployments
• Developing technical roadmaps in collaboration with R&D teams and aligning priorities across engineering groups
• Partnering with product and design stakeholders to deliver commitments with high velocity and quality
• Managing and mentoring a team of 4-5 Java developers through one-on-ones, performance reviews, and career development conversations
• Ensuring successful onboarding of new team members and contributing to technical recruitment efforts
• Establishing and promoting best practices in clean code, testing methodologies, and pair programming
• Removing technical blockers, making architectural decisions, and ensuring the team meets delivery commitments
• Fostering team cohesion and motivation across distributed office locations
• Participating in the adoption of AI technologies within products and internal engineering practices

What We're Looking For

Required Experience:

• At least 5 years of hands-on Java development experience with recent versions of the language
• Minimum 2 years in a team lead, engineering manager, or similar management role with direct reports
• Proven track record of delivering complex projects in microservices environments
• Demonstrated ability to balance technical contribution with people management responsibilities
• Professional proficiency in English

Technical Skills:

• Strong Java development and software architecture expertise
• Experience with Spring Framework
• SQL database knowledge
• Cloud platform experience
• Microservices architecture patterns and best practices

Leadership Competencies:

• Team leadership and developer mentoring
• Technical decision-making and problem-solving
• Cross-functional collaboration with product, design, and engineering teams
• Promoting clean code standards and engineering excellence

Location: Based in Paris with hybrid work arrangements (one remote day per week)
