About This Opportunity
Our talent team is representing a confidential fintech organization in their search for a Deputy Head of Financial Crime based in London. This is a pivotal leadership role within their Financial Crime Operations function, offering the opportunity to shape compliance frameworks, lead critical remediation initiatives, and drive control enhancements as the business scales its spend management platform.
You'll work alongside teams in Compliance, Risk, Legal, Operations, and Product to safeguard against AML, CTF, Sanctions, ABC, and Fraud risks while supporting sustainable growth. This role offers high visibility, including deputizing for senior leadership in regulatory engagements and board meetings.
Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day financial crime reports, disclosures, risk assessments, and regulatory outputs while monitoring metrics and KPIs to address emerging risks
- Lead complex remediation programs, regulatory look-backs, control enhancements, and technology integrations from scoping through execution and root-cause analysis
- Deputize for senior leadership during absences, representing the function at executive committees, board meetings, and regulatory engagements
- Directly manage, coach, and develop the Financial Crime Operations team, driving resource planning and high-performing culture
- Collaborate with internal Risk, Legal, and Business units, plus external auditors and regulators, to embed effective financial crime controls
- Track and optimize operational processes using data-driven insights and KPI analysis
What We're Looking For
- 8+ years of experience in financial crime/compliance within financial services, fintech, or regulated payment institutions
- 3+ years in a formal leadership role with direct team management experience
- Comprehensive knowledge of AML, CTF, Sanctions, ABC, and Fraud frameworks within a first line of defense environment
- Proven track record leading multi-workstream remediation projects and regulatory look-backs
- Strong understanding of evolving regulatory landscapes with experience engaging regulatory bodies and external auditors
- Strategic leadership skills with ability to provide trusted counsel to senior stakeholders and boards
- Strong analytical mindset for identifying root causes and optimizing processes
- Must have valid right to work in the United Kingdom; visa sponsorship is not available
This role suits candidates who: enjoy balancing strategic influence with hands-on execution, thrive in dynamic environments managing complex projects, and want high visibility with regulatory and board-level interactions. This is not ideal for those preferring purely advisory roles without team management or those uncomfortable with fast-paced, evolving compliance environments.
