About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential healthcare organization in their search for a Certified Inpatient Medical Coding Specialist. This is a fully remote position available to candidates residing in or willing to relocate to Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, or North Carolina.

Responsibilities

  • Review inpatient medical record documentation and accurately assign ICD-10-CM and PCS codes for diagnoses and procedures
  • Abstract medical records and ensure all required data elements for federal/state reporting and billing are captured
  • Evaluate documentation for specificity and clarity to support appropriate reimbursement
  • Initiate physician queries when documentation is inadequate, ambiguous, or unclear for coding purposes
  • Assign DRG codes effectively while maintaining 92-95% accuracy in ICD-10 and DRG assignments
  • Meet established productivity standards while minimizing abstracting errors
  • Stay current with official coding guidelines, compliance policies, and regulatory requirements
  • Adhere to ethical coding standards as established by professional organizations
  • Participate in continuing education and skills development activities

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Active certification: RHIT, RHIA, CCA, CCS, or CIC from AHIMA or AAPC
  • Minimum three (3) years of inpatient hospital coding experience
  • Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM and PCS coding conventions
  • Proficient understanding of human anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and surgical terminology
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Analytical abilities to interpret health record data and assign appropriate codes
  • Knowledge of coding compliance policies, official guidelines, and regulatory requirements
  • Proficiency navigating Windows-based applications
  • Must reside in or be willing to relocate to: Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, or North Carolina

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in Health Information Management or healthcare-related field
  • Experience coding in a Level 1 trauma facility or academic teaching facility
