RL Engineer

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential technology organization seeking an RL Engineer to join their team on a fully remote basis. This role focuses on designing, training, and deploying reinforcement learning systems for high-impact decision-making problems where traditional supervised learning approaches fall short. You'll work at the intersection of research and production engineering, bringing RL solutions from concept to stable, safe deployment at scale.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement reinforcement learning algorithms for complex decision-making systems
• Build and tune reward models for non-trivial environments
• Train neural network policies on GPU clusters at scale
• Develop simulation environments and manage large-scale experience collection pipelines
• Evaluate and optimize policy performance with focus on stability and safety
• Take RL solutions from research prototypes through production deployment
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and solve problems suited to RL approaches
• Document and communicate technical work to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or related field (or equivalent applied experience)
• 6+ years of combined reinforcement learning research and engineering experience
• Strong proficiency in Python and modern deep learning frameworks
• Hands-on experience with major RL libraries or custom RL stacks
• Solid theoretical foundation in probability, optimization, and reinforcement learning fundamentals
• Proven experience designing and tuning reward functions in complex environments
• Experience with simulation environments and distributed experience collection
• Track record of GPU cluster-based neural network policy training
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated impact through shipped products or published research
• Work authorization: U.S. Citizens, Green Card Holders, EAD Holders, and H-1B transfer candidates are welcome (new H-1B sponsorship not available)

Preferred:

• Experience with RLHF for large language models
• Background in multi-agent RL or hierarchical RL
• Exposure to robotics, control systems, or autonomous driving applications
• Publications in RL or related research venues
• Open-source contributions to RL libraries or environments

Pay

Pay via Get A Job.ai: $80,000–$100,000 annually
