Cloud Cost Governance Lead – Multi-Cloud FinOps

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential multi-cloud services organization in their search for a Cloud Cost Governance Lead to own end-to-end financial operations across Azure, AWS, and GCP environments. This is a remote position based in the United States with coverage expectations aligned to EMEA/US time zones.

You will be the single owner of cloud spend visibility, governance, and optimization across the entire multi-cloud estate, leading the team that maintains cost discipline and eliminates billing surprises.

Responsibilities

• Total cost ownership: Own complete spend accountability across Azure (primary platform), AWS, and GCP; maintain a single source of truth; reconcile all billing so every line item resolves to a client, program, or tracked unallocated bucket
• Team leadership: Lead the 24x7 cost operations function including shift coverage, handover protocols, SLA adherence, coaching, and ownership of all cost-related communications to customers and leadership
• Monitoring and detection: Run daily cost monitoring with threshold alerts per tenant, account, and workload using native tools across all three cloud platforms
• Incident management: Own cost incidents end to end including root cause analysis, impact assessment, remediation, preventive controls, and refund tracking
• Commercial calendar management: Maintain oversight of contract terms, cancellation windows, auto-renew posture, policy changes, budgets, thresholds, and tag enforcement to prevent billing surprises
• Data integrity: Ensure provisioning and lifecycle automation reconcile with actual cloud billing state; define cost platform requirements
• Reporting and analytics: Own cost data pipelines and publish monthly leadership summaries covering spend versus budget, variance analysis with root causes, unit economics, leak recovery, forecasts, and prioritized actions with owners
• Optimization: Forecast spend against deployments and capacity; drive commitment-based savings including Azure Reservations, AWS Savings Plans and Reserved Instances, GCP Committed Use Discounts, rightsizing initiatives, and budget discipline

What We're Looking For

• Azure FinOps expertise: 5+ years owning Azure cost management at scale in multi-tenant, CSP, EA, or MCA environments including Cost Management, Partner Center, subscription and resource-group billing, reservations, and usage attribution
• Chargeback model experience: Direct experience designing and operating a chargeback or showback model, including handling unattributable costs
• AWS cost governance: 2+ years hands-on with AWS Cost Explorer, Cost and Usage Reports, Organizations consolidated billing, Budgets, and Savings Plans or Reserved Instances
• GCP billing knowledge: Exposure to GCP billing export, budgets, and Committed Use Discounts with appetite to deepen expertise
• Cost data engineering: Proven ability to build (not just consume) cost dashboards and data pipelines using Power BI, SQL, or BigQuery that remain resilient through schema changes
• Leadership experience: Track record leading a small shift-based operations team with clear handover discipline and SLA accountability
• Communication skills: Ability to explain cost drivers and trade-offs to both technical and business stakeholders and produce clear, standalone leadership summaries
• Current hands-on experience: Must be actively working with cloud billing and cost data today with proven depth in Azure, real competence in AWS, and direct ownership of financial numbers in front of leadership

This is a hands-on ownership role with team leadership responsibilities. We are seeking proven practitioners with demonstrated depth in multi-cloud cost management, not those seeking to gain initial exposure.
