Senior AI Engineer – Patient Team (x/f/m)

Responsibilities

We are representing a leading healthtech organization in their search for a Senior AI Engineer to join their patient-facing product team in Paris. This role focuses on building intelligent search and recommendation systems that help millions of users across Europe access healthcare services efficiently.

In this position, you will:

• Design and build production search and recommendation architecture, including full retrieval, ranking, and reranking pipelines using vector search, semantic retrieval, and LLM-based rerankers
• Establish strong baselines with prompts, RAG, and model selection before implementing custom ML solutions
• Build comprehensive evaluation and observability frameworks at every stage, with both offline and online evaluation methods
• Set up data and event feedback loops that drive continuous iteration and inform deeper ML development
• Improve search relevance and ranking on patient-facing products, consistently raising result quality
• Own production quality metrics including latency, reliability, monitoring, and maintainability
• Partner with ML Engineers and collaborate closely with Product Managers and Software Engineers to define, build, and ship AI-powered features that deliver measurable value

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Significant experience as a Software Engineer or AI Engineer shipping search or recommendation systems to production
• Production deployment capabilities, specifically shipping algorithms to production environments (ECS-based services on AWS)
• Strong analytical mindset with a result-oriented, user-first approach
• Hands-on experience building end-to-end retrieval, ranking, and reranking pipelines
• Familiarity with metrics such as nDCG, MAP, Recall@k, and MRR
• AI-engineering proficiency in turning foundation models and off-the-shelf components into production systems, including embeddings, vector search, semantic retrieval, RAG, and LLM-based or managed rerankers
• Architecture-first approach: ability to build systems, baselines, evaluations, and feedback loops with standard tooling before implementing custom ML
• Experience with evaluation and observability built into every stage (retrieval, ranker, reranker), including offline and online evaluation, A/B testing, position-bias handling, and monitoring
• Proven ability to ship reliable, low-latency services to production with hundreds-of-milliseconds SLAs, with attention to data quality and long-term maintainability

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience at a B2C marketplace (e-commerce, hospitality, travel)
• Additional ML methodologies including pattern mining, recommendation systems, experimentation, or causal inference
• Experience with search engines or information retrieval concepts
• Exposure to learning-to-rank or feature engineering
• Experience in healthcare or other regulated domains (GDPR/HDS)

Technical environment: Our client's stack includes Rails, TypeScript, Java, Python, Kotlin, Swift, and React Native on a cloud-native platform.
