Team Lead Software Engineer

About This Opportunity

We are representing a rapidly scaling fintech organization that is expanding its engineering presence in Portugal. They are opening a new Lisbon office and seeking a Team Lead Software Engineer to join as a founding member of the team, helping shape how they build, hire, and work from day one.

This role starts fully remote and will transition to a hybrid setup (two days per week on-site) once the Lisbon office opens.

Responsibilities

This is a people-first leadership role where you'll lead a product engineering team while maintaining technical credibility. Your core responsibilities include:

• Team Leadership: Hiring, developing, and retaining engineers. Conducting meaningful 1:1s, identifying growth opportunities, and creating space for your team to develop.
• Delivery Management: Partnering with Product and QA to plan and ship reliably by removing obstacles, managing risk, and keeping the team focused on priorities.
• Culture Building: Setting the tone for team communication, feedback practices, and accountability while building psychological safety without sacrificing standards.
• Technical Guidance: Understanding trade-offs in architecture decisions and technical debt. Contributing meaningfully to technical conversations without being heads-down in code daily.

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Proven experience managing engineers with a clear point of view on what good leadership looks like
• Ability to have difficult conversations, provide developmental feedback, and motivate teams
• Strong technical foundation in.NET and C#/.NET Core to earn trust with engineers, review decisions, and identify risks
• Product mindset that considers business outcomes alongside technical correctness
• Ability to push back on scope, advocate for quality, and translate between engineering and non-technical stakeholders
• Comfort creating clarity for teams in ambiguous, fast-moving environments

Nice to have:

• Experience with Azure cloud development
• Familiarity with React or other frontend frameworks
• Background in financial services or fintech
