Senior Manager, Engineering

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential SaaS organization that is building the future of visual development platforms. They are seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead the team responsible for creating seamless code-native workflows that bridge visual and code-based development experiences.

This is a player-coach role where you'll build and lead an exceptional engineering team while remaining deeply involved in technical architecture, design decisions, and hands-on contribution when it accelerates progress. You'll be shaping how developers work directly in code while maintaining full fidelity with visual workflows, and pioneering the integration of AI coding agents into the platform.

Location: Remote-first (United States; British Columbia & Ontario, Canada)

Responsibilities

• Set the technical and product direction for code-native platform capabilities, including high-fidelity transitions between visual and code interfaces
• Lead the integration of AI coding agents into the development experience
• Own the developer experience of working with the platform in code, from core APIs and primitives to tooling and feedback loops
• Transform an emerging problem space into a coherent roadmap, balancing foundational platform work with customer-facing features
• Partner closely with product, design, and engineering teams across the organization
• Stay technically engaged through architecture reviews, design decisions, prototyping, and hands-on contribution where it provides maximum leverage
• Hire, coach, and develop engineers while building a high-performing technical culture

What We're Looking For

• BA/BS degree or equivalent professional experience
• 4+ years leading engineering teams building developer products, platforms, or technically complex product surfaces
• Strong technical depth in areas such as compilers, code generation, language tooling, IDEs, or developer infrastructure to actively shape architecture
• Experience building with AI or agentic systems, or demonstrated ability to develop deep expertise quickly
• Proven track record of turning ambiguous technical problems into usable customer-facing systems
• Ability to balance long-term architectural vision with the need to ship and learn iteratively
• Leadership style that combines high technical standards with strong coaching and team development capabilities
• Intellectual curiosity and openness to growth, particularly in emerging technologies like AI

United States (USD):

• Zone A: $248,000 - $310,000
• Zone B: $233,600 - $292,000
• Zone C: $217,000 - $272,000

Canada (CAD):

• Ontario & British Columbia: $270,000 - $338,000

Compensation is tailored to geographic cost of labor. This role is also eligible for the company's annual bonus program, with target amounts based on a percentage of base salary and actual payouts determined by company performance.
