About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential aerospace technology organization based in Munich, Germany. We are searching for a Senior Embedded Software Engineer who will take full ownership of low-level platform bring-up and real-time operating system development for safety-critical embedded applications.

In this role, you will be responsible for the complete software stack—from bootloader through BSP, OS, and application layers. You will work independently on platform architecture while collaborating closely with hardware engineers and application stakeholders to deliver robust, reliable embedded systems.

Responsibilities

  • Bring up RTOS environments and develop Board Support Packages for ARM Cortex-M cores, including MPU configuration and inter-core communication
  • Develop, test, and maintain comprehensive MCU driver libraries (ADC, SPI, clock management, and additional peripherals)
  • Build complete communication stacks and validate integration with host systems
  • Design drivers for complex integrated circuits and interface MCU with FPGA systems
  • Establish and maintain toolchain and CI infrastructure for embedded platforms, including Hardware-in-the-Loop testing and automated test equipment control
  • Own design documentation and requirements validation processes
  • Coordinate across multidisciplinary teams including electronics designers, systems engineers, test engineers, and ground support equipment teams
  • Debug complex platform issues using JTAG probes, serial consoles, logic analyzers, and oscilloscopes
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry advancements in embedded systems development

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Embedded Systems, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
  • Strong proficiency in embedded C/C++ programming
  • Proven RTOS bring-up experience on Cortex-M cores (ThreadX/Azure RTOS, FreeRTOS, Zephyr, or equivalent)
  • Hands-on firmware development and platform bring-up experience from scratch
  • Demonstrated expertise with communication protocols and stacks: SPI, I2C, UART, Ethernet IP/TCP
  • Knowledge of safety-critical design principles
  • Familiarity with Reliability, Availability, Maintainability & Safety (RAMS) concepts
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across hardware, test, and systems engineering disciplines
  • Meticulous attention to detail in design, analysis, and documentation
  • Hands-on approach to laboratory testing and problem debugging

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for embedded hardware targets
  • Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) experience
  • FPGA and VHDL programming knowledge
  • Python and Bash scripting skills
  • Understanding of space-relevant standards (ECSS, MIL-STD, NASA-HBK)
  • Awareness of functional safety standards (ISO 26262, DO-178C, or similar) and their implications for embedded software architecture
