The Opportunity

The University of Wisconsin System Administration is seeking an experienced IT Help Desk Specialist II to deliver responsive technical support and solve end-user computing challenges that keep the university's operations running smoothly. As a Specialist II, you'll handle moderately complex technical issues, mentor newer team members, and contribute to a culture of excellent customer service within our IT Help Desk team.

Your Responsibilities

  • Receive, log, and prioritize support tickets; investigate and resolve hardware, software, and connectivity issues
  • Provide remote and on-site technical support to end users, troubleshooting desktops, laptops, printers, and enterprise applications
  • Install, configure, and update hardware and software in compliance with university standards
  • Document solutions and maintain knowledge base articles to improve support efficiency
  • Perform user account management tasks, including provisioning and access requests
  • Mentor and train less experienced help desk staff and contribute to team development initiatives
  • Escalate complex issues appropriately and follow up to ensure customer satisfaction

Skills & Qualifications

  • Two or more years of experience in IT help desk or technical support roles
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for Windows, macOS, and Linux environments
  • Working knowledge of active directory, email systems, and enterprise software platforms
  • Excellent communication skills with proven customer service orientation
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work both independently and collaboratively
  • CompTIA A+, Microsoft Certified Associate, or equivalent hands-on technical experience preferred
