Data Senior Engineer – Data Modernization & Archiving – Remote (Toronto, ON, CA)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential government services organization in a critical data modernization and archiving initiative. Our client is migrating decades of historical financial data from legacy mainframe systems to a modern, secure archival platform—and they need experienced senior engineers to make it happen.

This is a remote position based in Toronto, Ontario, with the opportunity to work on a high-impact project that will transform how historical data is accessed, analyzed, and preserved for years to come.

Responsibilities

• Gather and analyze business and technical requirements, translating them into functional specifications and technical designs
• Analyze legacy data structures and develop comprehensive data models, mappings, and transformation rules
• Design and develop Oracle PL/SQL procedures and ETL processes to support data migration, transformation, and archival workflows
• Build and maintain Microsoft Power BI dashboards, reports, and visualizations to enable business intelligence and operational reporting
• Develop data validation, reconciliation, and quality assurance processes to ensure data integrity throughout the migration
• Integrate reporting solutions with existing databases, applications, and data sources
• Perform unit testing, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and defect resolution across all solution components
• Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to address requirements for data quality, governance, and long-term retention
• Prepare technical documentation including architecture diagrams, data mappings, workflows, and support procedures
• Support deployment activities, production implementation, and post-go-live stabilization
• Provide knowledge transfer and training to support teams and end users

What We're Looking For

Required Experience:

• 8+ years in software development, data engineering, or business intelligence
• 5+ years in a senior technical role (Senior Developer, Senior Programmer, or equivalent)
• 5+ years of data analysis, data modelling, and integration across multiple data sources
• 2+ years hands-on with Oracle PL/SQL and ETL development
• 2+ years developing reports, dashboards, and visualizations in Microsoft Power BI
• 2+ years designing or implementing data migration and archival solutions, including validation, reconciliation, and testing
• Experience transforming complex or legacy data environments into modern reporting or archival platforms

Technical Skills:

• Oracle PL/SQL and database development
• ETL design and development
• Microsoft Power BI (datasets, DAX, visualizations, embedded analytics)
• Data migration and archiving methodologies
• Data quality, validation, and reconciliation techniques

Additional Requirements:

• Must currently hold a valid Government of Canada Reliability Status security clearance
• Must be fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking); French bilingualism is an asset
• University degree or college diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field from a recognized institution (proof required)
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
• Ability to collaborate effectively with both technical teams and business stakeholders
