Staff Backend Engineer – Grafana App Platform| Canada | Remote

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential observability SaaS organization that is reimagining their core platform architecture to support massive scale and true multi-tenancy. This is a rare opportunity to join a Staff-level role where you'll help transform a widely-adopted platform into a robust, extensible app ecosystem.

Our client is moving from monolithic architecture to a fully scalable, multi-tenant platform that will power both open-source and proprietary applications. You'll be working on fundamental refactoring initiatives that require careful planning and safe rollout strategies to avoid disrupting thousands of active users across multiple deployment models.

This is a remote position open to candidates located in Canada.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement new platform features with a focus on scalability, multi-tenancy, and operational excellence
• Refactor critical components of a large-scale application to standardize architecture and improve maintainability
• Author and review technical design documents to ensure alignment across distributed teams
• Plan and execute safe rollout strategies for platform changes that affect production systems at scale
• Mentor engineers across the organization and contribute to technical decision-making processes
• Participate in on-call rotations (weekday 12h x 5d and separate weekend 24h x 2d) to ensure system reliability
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools (with company-funded usage budgets) to accelerate prototyping, testing, refactoring, and documentation
• Collaborate with multiple teams to align technical roadmaps with broader organizational needs

What We're Looking For

• Extensive experience building and operating SaaS platforms at scale, with demonstrated ownership of production systems
• Deep understanding of distributed systems challenges including scalability, multi-tenancy, data isolation, and high availability
• Strong coding abilities with proficiency in backend development; Golang experience required or strong willingness to learn
• Proven track record of planning and executing complex technical migrations safely in production environments
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to produce clear technical documentation and facilitate cross-team alignment
• Experience working transparently with stakeholders, incorporating feedback, and building consensus around technical decisions
• Pragmatic approach to engineering trade-offs; ability to balance progress with perfection and navigate ambiguity effectively
• Comfortable working remotely in a globally distributed team environment
