Psychiatric Technician, Day Shift, BHU

Virtua is hiring a Psychiatric Technician for the day shift at Burlington Hospital - 218 A Sunset Rd in Burlington, New Jersey. This full-time position offers the opportunity to provide direct patient support and therapeutic care on our Behavioral Health Unit (BHU), working alongside nurses, psychiatrists, and mental health professionals in a patient-centered clinical environment.

Role Overview

As a Psychiatric Technician on the day shift, you'll deliver direct patient care and clinical support within an active behavioral health setting. Your role combines patient observation, assistance with daily activities, and collaboration with the psychiatric care team to create a safe, therapeutic environment. This position requires attention to patient needs, strong communication, and the ability to respond professionally to the unique demands of psychiatric care. You'll contribute to Virtua's mission of providing excellent behavioral health services to patients across Burlington and the surrounding region.

Your Responsibilities

• Monitor and observe patient behavior, mood, and mental status; report significant changes to nursing and clinical staff
• Assist patients with personal hygiene, grooming, and activities of daily living
• Record vital signs and other health measurements as directed by clinical staff
• Support therapeutic activities, structured programs, and psychiatric interventions
• Document patient interactions and observations in medical records accurately and timely
• Maintain a safe, secure environment; respond appropriately to behavioral or safety concerns
• Communicate compassionately and respectfully with patients, families, and the care team
• Adhere to infection control procedures, safety protocols, and confidentiality standards

Who We're Looking For

• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• CPR certification or eligibility to obtain it
• Strong verbal and written communication abilities
• Ability to remain composed and professional in stressful or crisis situations
• Physical capability to work on your feet for extended periods and assist patients
• Respect for patient confidentiality, dignity, and individual differences
• Capacity to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team
• Healthcare experience or previous patient care background preferred
