Principal Power System Engineer – Interconnection

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential engineering consulting firm focused on power systems and grid modernization. They are seeking a Principal Power System Engineer with deep expertise in interconnection studies to support utility and ISO clients across the Eastern Interconnect. This is a remote opportunity based in the United States, offering the chance to work on complex transmission and generation interconnection projects while mentoring technical teams.

Responsibilities

• Perform complex interconnection studies including load flow, short circuit, and transient stability analysis across multiple ISOs and utilities in the Eastern Interconnect, with focus on MISO, SPP, and SERC regions
• Review ISO and utility interconnection study results, replicate findings, and identify errors or alternative mitigation strategies that could impact network upgrade assignments
• Support generation developers, large load customers, and merchant transmission projects through interconnection processes
• Serve as subject matter expert on interconnection studies and remain current with industry trends and regulatory developments
• Provide innovative technical solutions and take ownership of complex problem-solving efforts
• Develop and enhance relationships with key stakeholders including clients, industry organizations, and regulatory agencies
• Contribute to the development of new service offerings and support business growth initiatives

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

• Minimum 6 years of experience in the electric energy industry
• Demonstrated experience in IBR modeling, transmission planning, and/or interconnection studies
• Strong understanding of FERC, NERC, and ISO interconnection requirements and standards
• In-depth knowledge of at least one, preferably several, of the following software packages: PSSE, TARA, PSLF, PowerWorld, ASPEN, and PSCAD
• Experience managing and mentoring technical teams
• Experience leveraging AI and automation tools to improve quality, productivity, and innovation
• Active participation in industry taskforces and/or working groups

Beneficial Experience:

• Direct experience working at an ISO, utility, or on behalf of these entities as a consultant
• Experience with large load interconnection studies
• Experience with DER interconnection or studies
• Experience with production cost modeling
• Automation experience with Python, C#, or SQL
