Head of Security (f/m/d)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential climate technology organization that is building intelligent energy systems at the intersection of renewable infrastructure and AI-driven platforms. This is a rare opportunity to lead security for software that powers real-world connected energy systems—not just data centers, but critical infrastructure in people's homes.

As Head of Security, you will own the security function for the software division and lead a dedicated security team. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll build frameworks, grow the team, and stay close enough to the technology to make informed decisions on complex cloud and IoT security challenges.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow the security team, including hiring, mentoring, and setting strategic direction
• Own cloud and IoT security across applications, infrastructure, and connected hardware deployed in customer environments
• Build and maintain cybersecurity frameworks aligned with regulations applicable to critical energy infrastructure
• Design and scale identity and access management systems that support a growing engineering organization
• Develop security capabilities that integrate seamlessly into developer workflows
• Translate technical security risks into clear narratives for non-technical stakeholders and executive leadership
• Oversee security tooling including cloud security platforms, GitHub Advanced Security, and identity providers
• Ensure secure development practices in an AI-assisted engineering environment

What We're Looking For

• Several years of experience in security engineering or security leadership, with a track record of leading or mentoring engineers
• Strong technical background in cloud security, preferably Google Cloud Platform, with depth in infrastructure, CI/CD, identity, and application security
• Experience building security frameworks from the ground up in resource-constrained environments
• Knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks such as NIST CSF and ISO 27001; familiarity with critical infrastructure regulations like NIS2 and KRITIS strongly preferred
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to make security risks concrete for technical and business audiences
• Pragmatic, outcome-oriented approach to security challenges
• Fluent English; German is a plus

Bonus qualifications:

• Hands-on coding experience in TypeScript, Python, or GoLang
• Experience with security in AI-assisted engineering setups, including agentic workflows
• Incident response coordination experience
• Security and IT controls experience in companies preparing for public listing
• Scale-up environment experience (100–1000 employees)
• Passion for climate technology and renewable energy
