Forward Deployed Engineer, Manager -London

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential collaborative workspace technology company in their search for a Manager of Forward Deployed Engineering based in London. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a technical delivery team working on complex enterprise implementations across EMEA.

In this role, you will manage a team of engineers who design, build, and deploy production-ready solutions for major enterprise customers. Your team will tackle sophisticated technical challenges including custom integrations, AI-powered workflows, data migrations, and automation systems that connect the platform with customers' existing technology ecosystems.

This is a hands-on leadership position where you'll balance people management, technical architecture, and customer engagement. You'll coach your team through discovery, implementation, and launch while maintaining the technical depth to guide critical decisions and build trust with senior stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and develop a team of Forward Deployed Engineers delivering complex enterprise customer engagements across EMEA
• Create a high-performance team culture with clear expectations, strong technical standards, effective feedback, and meaningful career development opportunities
• Own end-to-end delivery quality from technical discovery and requirements gathering through solution design, implementation, launch, and handover
• Act as a trusted technical advisor to customer engineering, IT, security, and business leaders on architectural decisions
• Guide the design and build of custom agents, integrations, automations, and data pipelines connecting the platform with customer systems
• Oversee large-scale content and data migrations including discovery, scoping, data modeling, transformation logic, validation, and cutover
• Review technical designs and implementation plans, identify delivery risks early, and provide senior technical leadership when engagements require it
• Partner with Sales and Services leaders on qualification, feasibility, scoping, effort estimation, and delivery planning for strategic opportunities
• Balance customer priorities, team capacity, and technical complexity to make sound staffing and sequencing decisions
• Help define and scale the operating model for Forward Deployed Engineering including hiring, delivery methodologies, quality reviews, and best practices

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• 8+ years of experience in forward deployed engineering, solutions engineering, professional services, customer engineering, software engineering, or similar hands-on technical role
• 2+ years of experience managing, coaching, or leading engineers responsible for customer-facing technical delivery
• Strong track record of hiring, developing, and retaining high-performing technical teams
• Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Java, JavaScript, Node.js, SQL, or Python, with technical depth to review production-quality code
• Hands-on experience with APIs, integrations, authentication, data transformation, and production systems
• Experience leading technical discovery, assessing feasibility, identifying risks, scoping work, and translating ambiguous requirements into executable plans
• Strong architectural judgment and debugging skills across code, APIs, permissions, integrations, data quality, and automation logic
• Demonstrated success managing multiple complex customer engagements while maintaining quality, team health, and clear stakeholder communication
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to influence technical and business audiences from practitioners through executives
• Customer- and outcomes-oriented approach with sound judgment about when to standardize versus customize

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience building or scaling a Forward Deployed Engineering, professional services, or customer engineering function in a startup or high-growth environment
• Experience deploying AI agents in complex coding or business workflows
• Experience designing AI-powered workflows involving APIs, LLM applications, prompt engineering, retrieval systems, or workflow orchestration
• Experience with ETL/ELT workflows, schema mapping, validation scripts, and large-scale migration tooling
• Experience partnering with product and engineering teams to influence roadmaps based on customer implementation needs
• Experience supporting pre-sales phases including technical discovery, migration scoping, feasibility analysis, and prototypes
• Experience establishing technical delivery standards, quality review processes, and engineering tooling from the ground up
• Strong track record of successful enterprise implementations across multiple industries or regions
