Prompt Engineer

About This Role

Our talent team is representing a confidential technology consulting client in their search for a Prompt Engineer to join their established organization. This is a 100% remote, full-time position open to candidates located anywhere in the United States.

This role centers on defining strategy, design patterns, and tooling for prompt engineering, agentic workflows, and LLM-based application architectures. You'll combine hands-on expertise with modern large language models with the discipline of building reusable frameworks and developer tools that scale across teams and use cases.

Responsibilities

• Lead the strategy and architecture for LLM-based applications across the organization
• Design and document reusable prompt patterns and agentic workflow frameworks
• Build evaluation pipelines for non-deterministic systems
• Develop tooling that enables engineering teams to ship LLM-powered features efficiently
• Provide technical mentorship and influence architectural decisions
• Apply responsible AI principles, including safety and policy considerations, to all LLM implementations
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to determine appropriate LLM techniques for different use cases

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computational Linguistics, or related field
• 8+ years of software engineering experience
• Significant experience building and shipping LLM-powered products to production
• Deep familiarity with modern LLM APIs and agent frameworks
• Strong understanding of retrieval-augmented generation, embeddings, and vector databases
• Proven experience designing evaluation frameworks for LLM systems
• Strong Python programming skills and comfort with modern application frameworks
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
• Track record of mentoring engineers and driving technical direction

Preferred:

• Public writing, conference talks, or open-source contributions related to LLM application development
• Experience with multi-agent architectures and complex tool-use systems
• Knowledge of fine-tuning workflows and when to apply them versus prompt engineering
• Background in product domains such as customer support automation, coding assistants, or analytics agents
• Experience integrating LLMs into enterprise environments with compliance requirements

Pay

The client's target salary range for this position is $76,000–$99,000 annually. Compensation is determined by experience, qualifications, and location.
