Engineering Manager – Entertainment (H/F)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a leading online gaming and entertainment technology company based in central Paris. Our client operates in a highly competitive, high-traffic environment serving millions of users across multiple European markets. They are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead their Entertainment team in building innovative promotional gaming experiences.

This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll spend approximately 50% of your time coding while managing and mentoring a team of nine fullstack developers. You'll be responsible for designing, developing, and deploying interactive mini-games and promotional campaigns that reach hundreds of thousands of concurrent users.

Responsibilities

• Team Management: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of fullstack developers through regular one-on-ones, code reviews, and career development planning
• Technical Leadership: Architect and implement complex backend microservices primarily in Node.js while maintaining oversight of frontend integration
• Project Delivery: Organize workflows, break down tasks, estimate effort, prioritize work in collaboration with Product Owners, and ensure on-time, high-quality deliveries
• Hands-On Development: Design and code the most complex application components, including game logic, rewards systems, validation rules, and high-volume data processing
• Architecture Ownership: Define technical vision, make architectural decisions, structure projects, and create technical specifications
• Production Operations: Deploy to production, monitor system health, manage alerts, and handle incident response
• Quality Assurance: Establish and enforce development best practices, conduct code reviews, and ensure code quality standards
• Risk Management: Anticipate technical and scheduling risks, propose mitigation plans, and maintain system stability under high load

What We're Looking For

Required Experience:

• Engineering degree or Master's in Computer Science with substantial software development experience
• Proven track record as a Tech Lead, Lead Developer, or Engineering Manager
• Strong backend development expertise, particularly with Node.js
• Solid understanding of frontend development challenges and integration
• Experience managing and growing engineering teams

Technical Skills:

• Expert-level Node.js (TypeScript with JSDoc, non-transpiled)
• Distributed systems architecture (Kafka event streaming, consumer groups, error handling)
• Public API design (versioning, backward compatibility, performance optimization)
• Database technologies: MySQL (modeling, transactions, query optimization) and Redis/Valkey (cache strategies, latency reduction)
• Real-time performance engineering: low latency, high throughput, observability
• Concurrency patterns: idempotence, retry logic, race condition handling
• Hexagonal architecture (ports & adapters) with focus on testability and maintainability
• Familiarity with frontend frameworks (React/Vue) for cross-functional collaboration

Position Details:
