Senior Java Developer – E-Commerce + Accounting & Marketplaces – remote in EU

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential fintech client that is experiencing significant growth. They are seeking a Senior Java Developer to join their fully remote team. This is a critical technical role focused on building and maintaining core billing and invoice generation systems that serve a rapidly expanding customer base across the EU.

This position is remote within the EU, with the team centered around the Hamburg timezone.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain robust billing applications and invoice generation systems using modern Java
• Architect and manage highly concurrent, multi-threaded application logic to ensure memory efficiency and system stability
• Take ownership of infrastructure tasks, ensuring systems are scalable, reliable, and well-maintained
• Utilize and optimize both SQL and NoSQL databases to handle evolving data requirements
• Design and maintain high-quality API integrations utilizing modern standards like Swagger/OpenAPI
• Implement and manage solutions within cloud environments (GCP preferred)
• Collaborate with stakeholders to clarify requirements and architect clean, effective solutions

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of professional backend development experience with strong Java expertise
• Proven experience with concurrency and multi-threading in async environments—this is fundamental to the role
• Experience taking ownership of DevOps and infrastructure responsibilities
• Strong structured thinking: ability to break down complex problems and design well-architected solutions
• Excellent debugging, troubleshooting, and analytical skills with comfort navigating ambiguity
• Experience with AI coding tools and willingness to drive AI adoption in development processes
• Strong collaboration and communication skills in a remote team environment
• Familiarity with Git, continuous deployment pipelines (GitLab or similar), and agile practices
• Experience with cloud platforms, particularly GCP
• Database experience with both SQL and NoSQL systems
