Data Engineer / Cloud Data Platform Engineer (m/w/d)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential technology consultancy seeking a Data Engineer / Cloud Data Platform Engineer to join their team in Gescher, Germany.

In this role, you will:

• Design, implement, and operate modern data platform and data warehouse solutions in cloud environments
• Develop robust, automated batch and streaming pipelines for data extraction, transformation, and delivery using Python, SQL, and transformation frameworks
• Model high-performance data structures (including Medallion Architecture, Data Vault, and Star Schema) and provide interfaces for BI and reporting teams
• Translate functional and analytical business requirements into scalable technical specifications and data models
• Lead and manage projects independently—from source connectivity through transformation to production cloud orchestration
• Ensure data quality, monitoring, performance optimization, and automated testing throughout the entire pipeline
• Document architectures, data flows, and data catalogs while maintaining transparent communication with stakeholders and project teams

What We're Looking For

• Completed degree in Computer Science, Business Informatics, or comparable education/practical professional experience
• Solid experience in data engineering, data modeling, and building modern data warehouse/lakehouse architectures
• Proven hands-on knowledge in at least one relevant cloud ecosystem: Google Cloud Platform (BigQuery, Cloud Run, Cloud Composer/Workflows) or Microsoft Fabric/Azure (Synapse, Data Factory, Databricks, Fabric Lakehouse)
• Strong ability to write clean, performant code in SQL and Python
• Experience with modern DataOps and transformation tools such as dbt, orchestrators (Airflow, Dagster, or cloud-native tools), and CI/CD pipelines is highly desired
• Structured, analytical work style with the ability to maintain oversight of consistency, security, and scalability even with complex data flows
• Strong communication skills and ability to convey technical concepts clearly to both technical teams and business stakeholders
• Team-oriented mindset with a drive to advance best practices and collaboratively shape data engineering standards
