About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential global management consultancy with a specialized analytics and cloud engineering practice. Our talent team is seeking a Data Engineer to join their high-performing technical unit serving enterprise clients across German-speaking markets. This role offers exposure to complex data platform projects, modern cloud architectures, and the opportunity to work with international Fortune 500 organizations.

You'll be part of an agile squad that takes ownership of projects from initial scoping through production deployment, working across AWS, Azure, and GCP environments. The position is open to candidates in Hamburg, München, Düsseldorf, or remote within Germany.

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end delivery of data engineering projects, from requirements gathering and stakeholder alignment through measurable business outcomes
  • Design and implement data architectures supporting both batch and streaming workloads at varying scales
  • Provision and manage cloud infrastructure on AWS, Azure, or GCP to support modern data platforms
  • Build production-grade Python ETL/ELT pipelines with orchestration tools such as Airflow, Dagster, or Prefect
  • Work with data lake technologies and optimize OLAP data warehouses and lakehouses for performance and cost
  • Model data across SQL and NoSQL databases with attention to scalability and query optimization
  • Create web APIs using Python frameworks (FastAPI, Flask) following OpenAPI/Swagger standards
  • Automate infrastructure provisioning and deployments using Infrastructure-as-Code and container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift)

What We're Looking For

  • Passionate data engineer with strong engineering craftsmanship and interest in AI-driven technology
  • Hands-on production experience with at least one cloud hyperscaler (AWS, Azure, or GCP preferred)
  • Proven ability to write idiomatic, well-tested Python code for production environments
  • Expertise in performance tuning and optimization of relational databases through indexing, sharding, and partitioning strategies
  • Experience with data workflow orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow, Dagster, or Prefect
  • Working knowledge of large-scale data processing and modern analytics stacks (Apache Spark, Snowflake, dbt, or similar)
  • Proficiency with containerization and orchestration platforms (Docker, Kubernetes, or equivalent)
  • Excellent German language skills (C1 level) and conversational English
  • Customer-focused mindset with willingness to travel occasionally to client sites
  • Results-driven approach with ability to manage stakeholder relationships
