Golang Contractor – Open Source

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential DevOps infrastructure organization seeking a Senior Golang Contractor to focus on open source development. This contractor role offers 25–35 hours per week with flexible scheduling, and you'll collaborate directly with a major open source community on cutting-edge infrastructure tooling.

This position is based in the United States and requires availability in time zones between Los Angeles and New York, inclusive.

Responsibilities

• Work collaboratively with the open source community to design and implement innovative features for DevOps infrastructure tools
• Maintain and improve the quality of codebases, infrastructure, and documentation for open source projects
• Review and provide technical feedback on pull requests from community members and team colleagues
• Engage with external open source contributors and customers through written and verbal communication
• Take ownership of features from planning through shipping, working with stakeholders to define requirements
• Balance testing coverage with development speed while ensuring safe, continuous improvement of large-scale projects

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of software development experience with a strong focus on Golang
• Proven experience with open source projects, ideally in a leadership or significant contributor role
• Extensive OpenTofu/Terraform experience: you have authored numerous modules, operated infrastructure-as-code in production, and can speak from years of hands-on experience
• Deep cloud infrastructure expertise: years of experience working with cloud technologies and security best practices
• Strong asynchronous collaboration skills for working effectively with remote engineering teams
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English for engaging with open source communities
• Ability to work a flexible 25–35 hours per week, available approximately 48 weeks per year
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools (Claude, Copilot, Cursor, etc.) appropriately in the development workflow
• Passion for DevOps best practices and modern cloud infrastructure operations
• Strong testing methodology with an understanding of when and how to write effective tests
