Front-end Engineer

About This Opportunity

Our talent team is representing a confidential defence technology client based in London. They're building next-generation command and control software deployed in live operational environments, and they need a front-end specialist who can turn complex geospatial problems into clear, fast, and dependable user experiences.

You'll join the product development team working on an operational planning platform, collaborating closely with product design and engineering. This role owns front-end delivery from interaction design through production—building interfaces that go well beyond typical CRUD applications to handle interactive maps, multiple data layers, large datasets, and time-sensitive workflows.

Responsibilities

• Own front-end delivery on the core planning platform from interaction design through production
• Build complex interfaces for geospatial operational problems involving real-time data, interactive mapping, and critical workflows
• Work with product and design early in the process, turning operational requirements into clear user flows and production-ready experiences
• Review and elevate front-end quality across the team, improving work from engineers with varying specialities
• Make pragmatic trade-offs between speed and durability, especially when high-stakes deployments create tight deadlines
• Create reusable patterns and standards that maintain product coherence as the team and platform expand

What We're Looking For

Must-have qualifications:

• Strong production experience with React and TypeScript, with front-end engineering as a core part of your craft
• Track record of owning complex interfaces from problem definition through release and iteration
• Strong product and design judgement—you spot weak hierarchy, inconsistent interactions, and confusing states before they reach users
• Pragmatism and low ego: ability to improve rough implementations without turning every choice into a debate
• Comfort with ambiguity and changing priorities while maintaining high quality standards
• EU or UK citizenship (contractual requirement tied to defence sector work)

Nice-to-have experience:

• Mapping, cartographic, GIS, or other geospatial applications
• Front-end performance optimization for large or real-time datasets
• Building offline-capable or resource-constrained web applications
• Creating or scaling design systems
• Prior work in defence, government, or dual-use technology
